At Premier Crafts, we create kitchens that do more than look beautiful, they redefine how a home is lived in.
This recent project for the Swan family showcases how structural alterations, thoughtful design and expert project management can completely reshape a property into a light-filled, multifunctional family hub.
The project
The brief was clear: remove the existing utility room and create a spacious kitchen and living area that felt contemporary yet timeless.
To achieve this, we removed the supporting walls that formed the original utility space and installed new structural steel supports to create a bright, open-plan living area.
The transformation continued with the installation of new bifold doors across the back elevation and additional Velux windows, dramatically increasing natural light throughout the space.

The process
Renovations of this scale demand meticulous planning and seamless coordination. As supporting walls were removed and structural steels introduced, we carefully divided the space to keep the existing kitchen operational wherever possible.
Considered site management and clearly defined working zones minimised disruption, allowing the household to remain comfortable while progress continued.
During the eight-week design journey, we worked in close partnership with the Swan family to refine the layout and perfect every material selection.
Each stage of the structural alterations was executed with precision, ensuring the transition from the original utility layout to the new open-plan space was handled safely and efficiently.
Cabinetry was thoughtfully developed to balance practicality with visual impact, incorporating an appliance garage, a dedicated drinks cabinet, a bespoke spice cupboard and a tailored laundry unit. Together, these elements ensure the kitchen supports everyday family life while maintaining a clean, cohesive design.

The result
What was once a dark, enclosed kitchen has been transformed into a bright, open and beautifully balanced living space.
The finished layout is centred around the statement island in a striking carbon finish, complemented by taupe grey perimeter units in Mornington Vale painted mock in-frame doors for a refined, classic aesthetic.
Silestone Eclectic Pearl worktops with a matching sink provide a seamless, contemporary surface, while glue-down herringbone flooring in Lime Grey Oak by MJM Flooring introduces warmth and texture underfoot.
Accent lighting has been integrated throughout to enhance both atmosphere and functionality. A cosy corner fire and media wall with sofa seating complete the space, ensuring it supports both everyday family routines and relaxed evenings at home.

The feedback
Homeowner Andy Swan was delighted with the finished result and the experience of working with our team. Reflecting on the project, he said:
“The huge advantage for me using Premier Crafts was that they provided a turnkey solution from design to completion, which means myself as the customer was completely hands off, which was new to me but something I very much enjoyed.
“Throughout the process, the communication with Aaron and Richard was good. This aspect was very important to me as I was working overseas a lot of at time.”
“All the tradesmen who visited and carried out work in the house were excellent, especially the floor fitter who did an amazing job.
“Overall we are delighted with how the kitchen has turned out. It has completely transformed the space from a drab old dark kitchen to a bright modern special kitchen which is now the hub of the home.”

If you’re planning your own renovation, our experienced team would be delighted to help.
