5 timeless kitchen design tips to keep yours looking on-trend

Choosing to remodel your kitchen is a significant but worthwhile investment – the kitchen is, after all, the ‘heart of the home’. But with new kitchen trends saturating your Pinterest and Instagram feeds, how can you ensure that your new kitchen will stand the test of time and not look outdated within a couple of years?

Having crafted luxury, bespoke kitchens for homes across the North East for over 25 years, the team at Premier Crafts have witnessed materials and colour palettes quickly fall out of fashion. In order to avoid being sucked into the latest design fads, we’ve listed five top tips to help your kitchen feel fresh and modern for years to come.

Contrasting colours

While it can be tempting to opt for the ‘buzziest’ buttercup yellow or bold blue, we always advise our clients to avoid excessive colour on walls, countertops and cabinets and instead opt for a neutral shade. Why? Statement colours yo-yo in and out of style every few years whilst a classic white kitchen remains timeless. However, trendy colours can work alongside traditional hues if executed correctly. To add interest but also ensure the longevity of your kitchen design, we would suggest incorporating a contrasting colour kitchen island that could act as a focal point. Alternatively, adding contrasting shades with on-trend decor and kitchen appliances can save you from having to repaint your entire kitchen every few years.

The all-important kitchen island

Some trends come and go, but the kitchen island is here to stay. Dating back to the 1940s, the kitchen island is perfect for modern open-plan spaces, creating a sociable and functional work surface and additional storage unit. Whether you’re looking for space to store appliances, pots and pans or you’re seeking an additional dining area where the family can gather around on a morning and have breakfast together, an island can add value and functionality to your space and contribute to the timeless kitchen design aesthetic.

Stylish but practical flooring

The flooring you choose plays a big part in creating a kitchen that will stand the test of time, after all, it needs to withstand spills, heavy footfall and fluctuating temperatures. Hard-wearing and water-resistant Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is consistently popular amongst Premier Crafts clientele, rated for being easy to maintain and imitating the appearance of natural wood and stone. Opting for the real deal with solid wood flooring can also add timeless warmth and character to your space, however, you need to be mindful of the effects of humidity and the higher maintenance involved in keeping wood flooring in tip-top condition.

Natural countertops

Marble and granite are natural, luxury materials that can elevate a space and look stunning in both traditional and modern, minimalist spaces. With a natural material like marble, every countertop will be completely unique which can help set your kitchen apart from the rest and give it a timeless feel. Alternatively, quartz resin countertops – which mimic natural stone – are non-porous and will resist bacteria whilst looking incredibly sleek and high-end.

Functional drawer and cabinet features

Even if you opt for timeless colours and materials, a kitchen without the right storage solutions can start to look more messy than minimalist. Keeping your kitchen tidy can go a long way in making the room an inviting and trendy space in your home for years to come. We can help build bespoke storage that can cut through the clutter, whether it be narrow pull-out cabinets and hidden pantries or downdraft extractors integrated into countertops, there are a number of nifty solutions to make your kitchen organised and streamlined, which in turn can help boost its longevity.

*Currently, Premier Crafts are offering clients that place a kitchen order in November or December (for fitting between January and March 2023), a free larder pantry worth £1500 to help kickstart your kitchen organisation.

"We have nothing but praise for this company"

We had our kitchen fitted and from the first visit to the showroom to the finish of job we have nothing but praise for this company. Jason did an excellent job of planning and the tradesmen were highly skilled and very polite. They answered all of our questions. We have no hesitation in recommending them.

We recently had our new kitchen installed and couldn't be happier with the result. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding —every detail had been carefully thought through, combining style with practical functionality. The customer service throughout the process was equally impressive. Communication was clear, timely, and professional, and we always felt listened to. Any questions or changes were handled promptly and with a real sense of care and pride in the project. The quality of the kitchen itself is second to none. You can tell just by opening a drawer or running your hand along the worktops that this is a product built to last. Special mention has to go to the fitter, whose talent and attention to detail were exceptional. We’re absolutely thrilled with the end result and would recommend this team to anyone looking for a kitchen that delivers on both design and quality, backed by genuinely excellent service.

Excellent service from start to finish. Jason took our ideas and developed a perfect plan for our en suit bathroom. He gave us great advice about which materials worked well together and matched them to our idea of using brushed brass as the taps and shower fittings. Tony the fitter was an excellent craftsman. His work is exemplary. We are over the moon with the final result.

Premier Crafts redesigned & converted our kitchen, dining room and sun lounge extension into one open plan living area and refitted our utility room. Aaron led on the design and supported by Richard, they managed the project throughout. All the staff and workmen were friendly, trustworthy and professional. Much of the work was done whilst we were away on holiday. A couple of glitches were quickly sorted and the end result is exactly what we wanted. It looks fantastic. A big thank you to all involved, I have no hesitation in recommending this company.

Premier Crafts have been friendly, professional and efficient from the very first meeting I had with Rebecca at the Washington showroom to then discussing my kitchen design with Aaron at the Cleadon showroom. Aaron suggested great ideas for the best use of the space due to his expertise in design. During the kitchen fitting, Richard communicated all schedules to keep me up to date on the project which I found not only very considerate, but also helpful. Reese, Jake and Paul could not have worked harder to get the job done in the short time that had been advised. All of their finishing touches have been completed to a very high standard. I hugely appreciate all the extra personalised finishing touches that go over and above what is required. For example, the cleaning service offered once the kitchen had been fitted, plus the coasters and chopping board to match the work tops. I would highly recommend Premier Crafts to anyone who is looking for a new kitchen. Thanks again to all of you I have mentioned and the wider team for all your hard work.

Can’t rate the team at Premier crafts high enough. We had a kitchen and booth seating design thought out and with some minor tweaks from Aaron my dream kitchen was realised. We have secret doors with hidden wine racks a fantastic breakfast cupboard and pan drawers galore. The team were fantastic installing it with special thanks to Paul the fitter who really is a perfectionist. Can’t thank you all enough.

Had new kitchen installed by Premier crafts in February. From planning to final fitting everything was done professionally. Aaron was a great help putting the design together while Helen helped us decide which colour and pattern combination of doors, worktops and floor would work best for us. The fitting itself was well organised,. The old kitchen was dismantled and taken away on day one and replastered by the end of day two. Then electrician, plumber and fitter all worked together giving us a usable kitchen within just over a week. MJM flooring the finished the floor a few days later and we were done..We then had a visit from Helen who gave all the cupboards and draws a good clean which was a nice touch. A few days after the final payment had been made we discovered a couple of small chips on a kickboard and filler which were rectified hassle free with a quick phone call. All in all would highly recommend.

We couldn’t be happier with our superb new kitchen, designed and fitted by Premier Crafts. Within this project, Premier Crafts also assisted with a remodel, including knocking down a structural wall. We would highly recommend them and have used them in our previous house for a kitchen and two bathroom projects, a testament to their high quality service. They were able to translate our ideas into reality and make us aware of our options and key things to consider. They supported our unique design ideas and the finished product is better than we could imagine. Every member of the Premier Crafts team is really friendly and helpful, with really great communication and excellent customer service.
